6 months since NYC

Thursday, December 5, 2013

Today marks the 6th month since my return to Yangon and I can't believe it's already been 6 months!!!

I was worried at first on how I would survive here.
I'm going to be stepping on toes but bear with me. I have after all, been spoiled by the amazing New York City lifestyle!

In New York (City) you had the variety of shops, the ease of finding a place to eat, the late opening of those restaurants and shops, the lovely internet, the culture, the lifestyle... oh I could go on.

Here in Yangon... not so much and everything is so difficult to find! I'm having to resort to tripadvisor for restaurant recommendation (what has my world come to?!) and often at times, they disappoint. They often don't have the burmese taste buds. There are also small street restaurants I would like to explore that of course I can't research about because no one knows about it.

It's a true hipster happiness place where you're the discoverer but sometimes that's exhausting.

Yelp you've made me lazy!

But it's not just about the restaurant, I don't know where to go shop for anything - let's say I need to buy knitting needles. Nope not a clue till this day. Stores don't have website, and tripadvisor has no advice for that, for simple reasons.

I feel like a foreigner in my own country!

And so this is why I created this blog.

I will be blogging not only of my foreign experience with my birth city yangon but also about my foreign country experiences. The entries on this blog will not be purely travel with a focus on yangon. It will also include my lifestyle, my experiences with products, places (international) and thoughts on latest news.

A little bit of everything. Overall I guess you could call it a personal blog but also not... at the same time.

Enjoy the blog and leave a comment below on what entries you would like to read about.
